20 Years of Habitat Macedonia Highlighted in the USA

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of Habitat Macedonia, members of the Governing Board and the Assembly of the association undertook a one-week visit to Habitat partner affiliates in Florida, USA.

The hosts of the visit were long-time supporters and donors of Habitat Macedonia – the affiliates Habitat for Humanity of East and Central Pasco and Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County. Their former and current leaders, John Finnerty and George Rusaw, both honorary members of the Governing Board of Habitat Macedonia, organized a series of events and meetings with local leaders and Habitat partners, during which several projects and models of cooperation were presented.

A highlight of the visit was the volunteer day, organized on March 26, 2025, by the HFH of Citrus County affiliate. As a gesture of gratitude for the continuous support lasting more than 15 years – which, among other things, includes volunteering at the Macedonian construction site in Veles – members of Habitat Macedonia reciprocated by volunteering at the Citrus Springs construction site, where the affiliate is building 176 single-family homes for low-income families.

Recognizing volunteering as a traditional and prestigious component of Habitat for Humanity’s mission, which mobilizes thousands of supporters around the world, the event was joined by the Macedonian Ambassador to the USA, Zoran Popov, who traveled from Washington especially for this occasion. After the volunteer activity, Ambassador Popov and the Executive Director of Habitat Macedonia, Zoran Kostov, were invited to address the ceremony at which keys to newly built homes were handed over to several families.

The visit also included a number of field trips, as well as meetings with representatives of the Macedonian diaspora.
